The Lab Question: Is there any biological advantage related to seed size?

Data

1.      Remove 100 peanut seeds from their shells.

2.      Measure and record the length of each seed to the nearest millimeter.

3.      Measure and record the mass of each seed in grams.

4.      Make a data table for the seed lengths and mass in the data section of this lab report (independent and dependant variables). This can also be done on a separate sheet of paper.

5.      Use Microsoft Excel or graph paper to make a graph of your seed variation data (one or two graphs).

6.      Interpret the data as it relates to the lab question.

What size or sizes (length & mass) are the most common?

What size or sizes are the least common?

How does this relate to what seeds make it into mature plants and make new seeds over many generations (think natural selection/survival of the fittest)?
